"Righteous – the saviors of live: historical experince" Print

On May 17th-19th, 2011 in Lviv “Tkuma” (“Revival”) All-Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies and “Hesed Aryeh” All-Ukrainian Jewish Charitable Fund conduct series of events dedicated to the 70th Anniversary of German attack on USSR and Holocaust begin on the territory of Ukraine. This anniversary is an important occasion to remind not only about the war tragedy, inter-ethnic hostility, but also the cases of mutual help between ethnic groups, spiritual deeds of saving the human lives. Amongst the scheduled events are as follows:

INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE
“RIGHTEOUS – THE SAVIORS OF LIVE: HISTORICAL EXPERIENCE AND MORAL LESSONS”

Lviv, a concentration camp Stalag number 328, which was located in the Citadel (1941)

 

Among the participants are the notorious scientists from Belorussia, Israel, Canada, Poland, Russia and Ukraine:

Prof. Barbara Weigl, deputy director, High School of Public Psychology (Warsaw, Poland);

Prof. Yaroslav Hrytsak, PhD, professor of Ukrainian Catholic University, director of Institute for Historical Research, Lviv University named after I. Franko (Lviv, Ukraine);
Prof. Vladyslav Hrynevitch, PhD, candidate of historic sciences, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies (Kyiv, Ukraine);
Prof. Maksym Gon, PhD, head of Politic Sciences Department of Rivne State Humanitarian University (Rivne, Ukraine);
Dr. Orest Zakydalsky, MA, Ukrainian Jewish Encounter (UJE), Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Center (Toronto, Canada);
Prof. Igor Ilyushyn, Phd, head of the department of international relations, Kyiv Slavonic University (Kyiv, Ukraine);
Dr. Igor Shchupak, director of “Tkuma” All-Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies (Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine), etc.

In their speeches the scientists will cover the reflection of WWII and Holocaust events in historic memory and policy of history in Ukraine; inter-ethnic relations in Ukraine during the war; role of the spiritual leaders of Ukrainians, Poles, Jews at the critical points of trials; Ukrainian-Polish mutual help during the WWII, tragic events 1943-44 in Volyn, “Visla” operation; phenomenon of Ukrainians and Poles – Righteous Among the Nations of the World who risked their own lives and their families for rescuing the Jews during the Holocaust.

Within the framework of the Conference:

PRESENTATION OF BOOK by Y. HESHELES “Through the eyes of 12-year-old girl”
Meeting with the author who describes her rescue by “Zhegota”, Polish organization for rescue of Jews during the Holocaust; and prof. Y. Hrytsak, author of the preface. The book has been published by “Hesed Aryeh” (Ada Dianova, director) and publishing house “Spirit and Letter” (Leonid Finberg, chief-editor).
