The chief rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Reuven Asman announced about that fact during the press-conference. In honor of Metropolitan they planted a tree opposite Central Kiev Synagogue named after Brodskyy.

The action “Tree of life” has been organized by Jewish community of Ukraine. It took place with the participation of representatives of Christian confessions. As rabbi Asman says that was the way to express gratitude to the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptitskyy for saving of hundreds of Jews during WWII.

In his appeal to the President of Ukraine, to Ukrainian people and Jewish communities of Ukraine Kurt Lewin, who was saved by Sheptytskyys’ brothers, underlined that Metropolitan Andrey and his mates, taking the risk of their own lives, had been unselfishly saving Jews.
